Honiton Fight Night – 14th November 2009

Big congratulations to Sonny Perez and his crew, for an excellent show and an excellent standard of competition.

It is hard to believe that this was his first show.  Respect must also go to Sonny’s crew of Tilly and Co who did an excellent job on the night.

Golden Belt Junior South West Area Title – Thai Boxing 32-34kg
Liam Pendle (Higher Level) V Joe Le Maire (Bury)

001

Liam Pendle took the tile after stoppage in the 4th round (1 minute, 8 seconds).  This was an excellently contended competition to this point, but Pendle’s strength was the telling point in the end.

002

Golden Belt Junior South West Area Title – Thai Boxing 24-26kg
Tommy Green (Higher Level) V Ivan (Combat)

Tommy Green was awarded the title, as Ivan unfortunately did not make the weight.  Both trainers agreed that the fight should go ahead as a non-title fight.

003

Going the full 5×1.5 minute rounds, Green took the unanimous decision.  Ivan is also a fighter to watch out for in the future, both giving an excellent display of thai boxing.

004

Golden Belt Amateur South West Area Title – International Rules 62-64.5kg
Matt Wales (Simingdam) V Connor Crutchley (Full Circle)

005

Matt Wales took the title in round 3, with a stoppage.  Giving Simingdam the first of three Golden Belt Titles.

006

Golden Belt Amateur South West ARea Title – Thai Boxing 62-64.5kg
Ricky Kellow (Simingdam) V Alex Rush (Rama Camp)

007

This was a closely contended title going the full distance.  With a close unanimous decision going to Ricky Kellow of Simingdam.  A great fight by two great competitors.  I am sure there will be a return in the near future.  Well done to both lads.

008

Golden Belt Amateur English Title – International Rules 98+kg
Jaden Haine (Simingdam, Exeter) V James Evans (Merseyside Kickboxing)

This was a great way to end the evening.  James Evans travelling all the way from Wirral Birkenhead for the day.  As these two lads came face to face at the start of the fight, you just seemed to sense it wasn’t going to go the distance.

009

Haine was straight on to Evans from the sound of the bell in round one.  Evans didn’t seem phased at this point, being the heavier out of the two, and landing some nice combinations that Haine didn’t seem to have any answer for, but he never gave up trying.

The bell sounded for round two, and Haines, with some good instruction from his corner, releasing devastating leg kicks to Evans’ leading leg.  Evans seemed to ignore the advice from his corner, failing to shin block any of these kicks.  This certainly gave Haines the confidence he needed, as in round three he came out full of confidence and took the fight to Evans.

As Evans’ nose began to bleed he seemed to lose heart, and Haines took full advantage of this, forcing the referee to stop the fight in round three.

This made Haines the new Golden Belt superheavy weight English champion in International rules to the jubilation of his trainer and supporters.

010

This ended an excellent night for Sonny Perez, giving him three Golden Belt Champions.

Respect to him and his fighters for an excellent night and a fantastic first promotion.
